French novelist, journalist and poet, Anatole France (1844-1924), was elected to the Académie Française and won the 1921 Nobel Prize for Literature. His many other works include, 'Le Puits de Sainte Claire' (1895) ('The Well of Saint Claire') 'Le Lys rouge' (1894) ('The Red Lily'), 'La Révolte des Anges' (1914) ('The Revolt of the Angels') and a biography of Joan of Arc (1908).
